Let the Hurt Go!

“It’s a great life if you don’t weaken.”

- Joe Pellegrino (my dad)

Sometimes when we hurt so bad, we do not let the hurt go. It is very hard then to get an inner healing. You can build a wall around you that not even the Holy Spirit can break it down. I lost my husband and then I went through a bad divorce. I did not want to hurt anymore, so I built a wall around myself; I let no one in or out. Jesus said, “but I cannot get in either.”

Event after event kept coming, one after the other; satan was bombarding me and I was fairly new in Christ. I was very confused because I thought once you were saved you had no more problems. I had to learn that is not true, it is just that Jesus takes you through to the other side. I did not understand what was going on at the time, my only thought was He was there with me. No one had answers for me in counseling from my church, so I just held on to the Word, I held tight to Jesus; He was really carrying me.

I learned while trusting Him during these hurtful times that my faith was growing. I was frightened because it looked like things were so far out of control and could not be fixed. I was young and had four children to take care of alone. But just as today’s verses say, I took one day at a time, not looking ahead because tomorrow has problems of its own. I just had to trust Him!

Our walk in Jesus is a continually growing adventure in life. Keep your eyes on Him and do not look around you, for then you will fall. My dad had a great saying, “It is a great life if you don’t weaken.” My dad had polio since a young boy in his right leg and he never let it get him down, he was a good Christian, and a great inspiration in my life. Let us start this new year by letting the hurt go so that we may walk ever closer with our Lord and Savior. Matthew 6:34

[Jesus said] “Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things, sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.

Isaiah 61:1

The Spirit of the Lord God I upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.

Proverbs 4:23

Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.

Romans 8:18

For I consider that sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Romans 8:31

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
