Do Not Quench the Holy Spirit
Let us go closer each day to Jesus and not lose our first love and desires walking in the Spirit. Do not fulfill the lust of the flesh and let your feelings over take you, for by doing so you are quenching the Holy Spirit within you. The Holy Spirit then is unable to speak to you anymore. Sometimes it hurts us when the Holy Spirit corrects us, but God wants us to continually grow and not stay as a baby on the milk of His word. He wants us to mature so we may help others. Let us heed the warnings in today’s verses and listen to God’s voice, not refusing to hear it and have our own way like a spiteful child. It is a dangerous road to embark upon our own path. Without correction our soul cannot prosper and grow into maturity, especially if He is telling you about a sin you are heading towards. Repent immediately so satan doesn’t get a hold on you. Stay sensitive to His voice, and don’t be as Saul who did not listen and then made excuses for himself and blamed others.
I learned this lesson the hard way as a new Christian, learning to listen to that still small voice. I knew I had to test the spirits and make sure they were of God and not go my own way. I moved slowly and prayed a lot to make sure I was listening to Him. I read the Bible and waited for confirmation before I went forward. He knows our hearts and His loving patience guides us through if we listen quietly at His throne. So, let us stay humble before Him, He knows what is best. Trust Him in all things and He will give you the desires of your heart. Seek Him first, and everything will be added unto you.
2 Kings 22:17
“Because they have forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. Therefore My wrath shall be aroused against this place and shall not be quenched.”
Song of Solomon 8:7
Many waters cannot quench love, nor can the floods drown it.
Isaiah 42:3
A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench; He will bring forth justice for truth.
Jeremiah 4:4
“Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, and take away the foreskins of your hearts, you men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, lest My fury come forth like fire, and burn so that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.”
Jeremiah 21:12
O house of David! Thus says the Lord:
“Execute judgment in the morning; and deliver him who is plundered is plundered out of the hand of the oppressor, lest My fury go out like fire and burn so that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.”
1 Thessalonians 5:19
Do not quench the Spirit.
