Sitting at the Feet of Jesus
Today’s verses remind us that sometimes we must slow down our day and sit at the feet of Jesus so we can hear what He is telling us. We must quiet our spirit and listen to the still small voice who is ministering to us. Learn to rest in Him, in quiet times. We can get so busy in life doing for Him that we miss the part of His calling for us to slow down. Yes, He wants us to do good works, but He comes first and foremost. As Martha overdid, she became resentful toward Mary. We must be careful because so easily we can deteriorate from gladness to resentment and envoy.
There was a time I overdid my good works because it kept my mind busy, but that did not heal my sadness inside. You can neglect more important matters in life by running from the real problem. Not until I slowed down and faced my fears was Jesus able to come forth and have me deal with truths. My friend would tell me, “stop being a turtle and get out of your shell.” Not until I slowed down and let Jesus deal with me, was I able to be set free. Facing truths in life can be hard, but very important because in those quiet times you can hear the Lord, and He can renew your strength to go forward in life. I think of Isaiah 40:31 that says, “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.”
I thank Jesus for all He has done for me and my family. Many times, I grew tired and weary but going before Him it all left me. He lifted me up; He is worthy to be praised! He will never leave us or forsake us, even in the small things. One time our VCR broke and I had very little money to buy a new one. My boys were so disappointed because they used it all the time. I felt to go to the store and check out prices with them. When we got there, Jesus said to me, “Just stand there.” The salesman came over and tried to sell me a high price VCR, but the Lord said, “No, just stand there.” So, I did, and he kept coming over to me and lowering the price. Before I knew it, he went so low with the price, it was just the amount I had. Praise God that I obeyed His still small voice and stood my ground. The boys were so happy because they could see their movies now; one of many blessings He gave us. In the book, I wrote many more times where He took us through to victory with guidance from above. Luke 10:39-40
39-And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word.
40-But Martha was distracted by her many tasks, and she came up and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to serve alone? So, tell her to give me a hand.”
